I’m chatting with Ms. V https://www.facebook.com/msvmadagascar on another platform and I wanted to share with her my thoughts on some particular photos I discovered a few years ago—among the Defap and Robert Lisan collections, and above all, above all, above all, the ones where I discovered those famous Norwegian houses (big sigh). There’s something in those gazes, something lost—a gentle blend of daring and pride that I don’t really find in our people anymore today.

Portrait of Hova men wearing the lamba.; The word hova traditionally refers to the most important part of merina people. Lisan, Robert, 1950/1970
Portrait of a Sakalava man.; The Sakalava is a cultural group, living on the western coast of Madagascar.
