it’s no big deal just the usual non-lethal warfare thrown all over town
now that my kids are exposed weekly to this new lifestyle, I’d rather learn more about what might come to us in case things escalate and spread to our corners of town (which is more likely to happen since they tend to mobilize troups in all neighborhoods – “they” here points at “both sides”). yesterday hanging at Tana Water Front circled by 3 epicenters of the riots,(Behoririka, Ankadifotsy, Andravohangy) was already enough stress inducing. also we remotely missed getting stuck between 2 crowds twice back in October as I was on my way to site works the 1st time and the 2nd time the kids were leaving after school activities. I can’t voice enough how much I hate what is going on and how I care less for both sides.

Even if they are designed not to kill, the less-lethals most commonly used in crowd control—tear-gas canisters, rubber bullets, flash-bang grenades—can easily break limbs, shatter skulls, burn and lacerate skin, destroy eyesight and hearing, concuss brains, and contuse flesh. “They are as dangerous as the person firing them wants them to be,” says physician and human rights activist Rohini Haar. And as a growing body of research shows, these weapons have left a distinct trail of injuries in the wake of movements like the Arab Spring, the Hong Kong protests of 2019, and the Black Lives Matter demonstrations of 2015 and 2020.

C’est le cas d’un fusil d’assaut moderne utilisant des munitions à petit calibre et haute vélocité tout comme les mines antipersonnel qui sont conçues pour mutiler.(…) La communication de ces producteurs insiste alors sur leur non létalité et empruntent des appellations plus séduisantes comme le « M 35 Punch » ou le « Flash Ball » conçus pour provoquer « un choc neutralisant ». Ainsi le « LBD 40 x 46 », aujourd’hui si décrié, est présenté comme un « lanceur de balles de défense » plutôt que comme une arme à feu à munitions en caoutchouc.
