Currently, few organizations in the Indian Ocean region offer a combination of expertise in heritage conservation, sustainability, and technical advisory services. Trano fills this gap by bridging research, community engagement, and applied solutions.

Madagascar’s architectural and cultural heritage is exceptionally rich, yet there is no structured entity dedicated to architectural consulting, heritage preservation, and sustainable urban development. Unlike other regions where research centers and advisory bodies provide technical and strategic guidance, Madagascar lacks a centralized actor capable of bridging traditional knowledge, contemporary challenges, and sustainable solutions.

The island faces pressing issues: rapid urbanization, loss of vernacular techniques, standardized construction practices, and the absence of specialized expertise to support informed decision-making. Without a dedicated advisory structure, efforts to preserve historical sites and promote a climate-responsive, identity-driven architecture remain fragmented.

Trano Architecture, as non-profit, emerges as a necessary response to this void, offering independent expertise, research-driven insights, and strategic guidance. By structuring a platform for knowledge-sharing, technical advisory, and interdisciplinary collaboration, our expertise aims to support communities, institutions, and stakeholders in shaping a built environment that is both respectful of heritage and forward-looking.

At a time when Madagascar must confront climate challenges, land pressures, and cultural preservation, the establishment of a specialized architectural and heritage advisory entity is no longer an option—it is an imperative.
